Tall etagere - with speckled glaze

A ceramic etagere, or as it's called in English, a pedestal bowl. A bowl on a pedestal, which I think is a beautiful term. Because the top of this etagere is more of a bowl than a flat plate. This makes it perfect as a fruit bowl or serving dish for cookies or other delicious treats.

It was a wonderful challenge to make this ceramic etagere. At the high temperatures I normally fire at, the top bowl would likely have collapsed over the foot. So I opted for a lower firing temperature with a beautiful beige speckled glaze. I'm very excited about it myself!

• Not suitable for liquids
• Not dishwasher safe

This ceramic etagere, unlike all my other work, was fired at earthenware temperature. This means at a lower temperature than my other work and with a different type of glaze. This glaze "fits" less well on the clay I use, so you will see crazing (hairline cracks) in the glaze. This is not a problem for the functionality of this etagere: you can perfectly use it as a fruit bowl or serving dish. However, it cannot be put in the dishwasher or used for liquids.
